Record-Breaking Performances
In 2023, Sigler achieved a remarkable feat by leading the state with 614 kills, averaging 5.2 kills per set for the Horizon Huskies, who currently hold a 10-1 record in 2024 conference play and 11-3 overall. Her impressive stats earned her the title of MaxPreps’ top player in Arizona, and she was also selected for The Republic’s All-Arizona girls’ volleyball team last season. Sigler’s contributions helped the Huskies secure their third consecutive 5A Conference championship, showcasing her talent on the court.
Ranked among the top 10 players statewide for hitting percentage, she holds the No. 1 position in 5A and is No. 4 in the conference for kills. Notably, Sigler has also been recognized as the nation’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025 by PrepDig.com and has committed to play Division I volleyball at the University of Nebraska.

“All of those awards just continue to motivate me,” Sigler stated. “My mindset with volleyball is, ‘You may be better than me, but you will never outwork me.’” This fierce competitive spirit sets her apart from her peers.
Finding Passion in Volleyball
Despite her exceptional talent, Sigler initially had other sports on her radar. It was her mother, a former volleyball player and coach, who inspired her to pursue volleyball seriously. “Volleyball has been a really good outlet for me,” Sigler explained. “Whenever life has been hard, I’m able to go hit a ball or be with my teammates. I’ve been able to go overseas, and I cherish the sport for all the experiences it’s given me.”
Over the past four seasons at Horizon, she has become a vital leader, both through her performance on the court and as a co-captain, embodying the values of teamwork and dedication.
A Coach’s Praise: Leading by Example
Huskies head coach McKenna Skaggs admires Sigler’s dedication, stating, “Teraya’s always in volleyball, 24/7. Her work ethic is just superior to others. She is one of the smartest players I’ve seen strategically, and she always believes in her teammates.” Sigler’s ability to hold her peers accountable while fostering a supportive environment exemplifies her leadership qualities.
Since the Huskies won their first state title in 2009, they have continued to build on their legacy, earning a total of six state titles. Under Skaggs’ leadership, the team didn’t miss a beat after the previous coach, Valorie McKenzie, stepped down. In the 2023 championship match, Sigler delivered an impressive performance with 30 kills, solidifying her place in Horizon’s storied history.
Recognition and Impact Beyond the Court
Horizon was ranked No. 3 in the AIA’s 5A rankings as of last Friday, just behind Sunrise Mountain Mustangs and Chaparral Firebirds. Despite two early season losses, the Huskies are poised for success, with an upcoming match against Chaparral.
Sigler’s influence extends beyond the court; her teammates recognize her leadership. Senior libero and co-captain Ava Lambert remarked, “Teraya has taken a leadership role to the highest level she can. It’s amazing to get insight from her. She’s always there for you as a friend first.” Skaggs has also fostered a personal connection with the team, making it enjoyable to win under her guidance.
Sigler’s international experience is remarkable. As a member of the USA Volleyball U19 and U21 teams, she has earned three gold medals, further honing her skills and knowledge of the game.
Giving Back: Inspiring Future Generations
In her pursuit of excellence, Sigler has also focused on giving back to her community. She has volunteered as a youth volleyball coach and peer mentor, emphasizing the importance of role models in sports. “I remember growing up watching female athletes and realizing that these women weren’t just amazing players but good people as well,” she shared. “When people see me, they see the number 12. But, I want them to know I care about them on a personal level as well.”
Sigler aims to finish her high school career with another state championship, hoping to inspire young female athletes across the nation. “One thing I would really like to accomplish is to make these girls know they’re loved. In volleyball, there is such a sense of sisterhood.”
A Dream Come True
With her sights set on the University of Nebraska, a school she has dreamed of attending since childhood, Sigler is excited about her future. “It makes me smile every time I think about the fact I get to be a Husker. It’s really pushed me to be better on the court and as a human being.”
As the Huskies continue their season, Sigler is focused on what truly matters. “It’s these heartfelt moments that make volleyball so amazing. I’m very grateful for the recognition, and for my Horizon teammates. I just love playing with this group and for the family we have.”
The Huskies’ next match is scheduled against the Mountain Point Pride on October 21, and with Sigler leading the charge, the sky’s the limit for this talented athlete and her team.
