Leading the team were legendary superstars LeBron James and Stephen Curry, who teamed up for the first time in USA colors after many intense battles in the NBA.
This marked the fourth Olympic medal of LeBron’s career, having previously won a bronze in Athens 2004 and gold in both Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Adding to his extensive list of achievements, LeBron is about to enter his 22nd NBA season, an extraordinary feat. For Curry, this gold medal holds special significance as it completes his trophy cabinet after having already conquered everything in the NBA.
This gold medal marks a turning point in the careers of both LeBron and Curry. Former Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers player Juan Toscano-Anderson, who had the rare opportunity to be teammates with both superstars, believes that this victory further cements their positions as some of the greatest players in basketball history.

“I think this solidifies their legacy,” Toscano-Anderson shared in an interview with BasketballNews.com. “Obviously, they’ve achieved incredible feats and have always been in discussions about the greatest players of all time. As they continue to add accolades to their resumes, it only reinforces the idea of them being in the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) conversation.”
Toscano-Anderson didn’t hesitate to praise both, saying, “Personally, I think LeBron is, if not the greatest player ever, then certainly one of the greatest; and I think Steph is the best point guard to ever play the game.”
Having had the rare chance to play alongside both LeBron and Curry, Toscano-Anderson shared insights into the similarities and differences in how these superstars lead their teams. “They are very similar in many ways,” he said. “Greatness doesn’t happen by accident. Both LeBron and Steph lead by example, spending a lot of time at the facilities taking care of their bodies and honing their skills. Their approach to being professionals is very much alike.”

Toscano-Anderson also described the contrasting personalities of the two: “LeBron is kind of goofy and funny, while Steph is very likable and friendly. But LeBron also has a childlike side that many people don’t see because they only see him in the spotlight, where he has to behave a certain way. Both are amazing guys, and I really enjoyed playing with them. I consider them friends and still keep in touch.”
Although currently not on an NBA team, Toscano-Anderson remains active in basketball, playing with NBA G League United, competing in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Singapore. The 6’7 forward is part of this newly formed team facing off against champions from each continent, and he’s been enjoying the experience.
“This is a great experience,” Toscano-Anderson said. “We have a lot of talent, and I’m the oldest on the team – it’s the first time I’ve been in this position. It’s exciting to play with young talents and reconnect with my old college roommate, Deonte Burton, bringing us back together.”
When asked about his future in basketball, Toscano-Anderson expressed hope for another shot in the NBA. “If someone offers, playing in the NBA will always be my first choice. But obviously, it’s not entirely up to me, so I’ll reassess my options after this tournament.”
As his career seems poised at a crossroads, Toscano-Anderson’s reflections on LeBron and Curry continue to affirm their status in basketball history. Whether as the greatest player of all time or the best point guard ever, LeBron and Curry have not only conquered titles but also captured the hearts of fans around the globe.
