The Beckmanns’ Challenging Journey
Meghan Beckmann has lived in Jasper for 23 years, while her husband, James, is a lifelong resident. The Beckmann family includes two children, Barrett (14) and Violet (11), who grew up listening to Taylor Swift’s music. As a family of music lovers, they have been longtime fans of the singer-songwriter.
However, their lives were turned upside down on July 22, when a massive wildfire forced them to evacuate alongside 25,000 others. While their home was spared, the surrounding area was severely damaged. James lost his job when HI Jasper, where he worked, was completely destroyed. Living in a recovery zone has been a significant emotional strain on the family, especially for the children.

“Living in a recovery zone, the kids’ emotions are all over the place. Some days they’re happy, and other days they’re not. The reality of the situation is sinking in more and more,” James shared.
An Unexpected Joy
The trip to Taylor Swift’s concert was a surprise gift the Beckmanns received through a contest hosted by Rogers Communications, the presenting sponsor of the Eras Tour in Canada. Barrett and Violet submitted an entry that won, granting them the chance to attend this special event.
“After a challenging year for families like the Beckmanns in Jasper, we wanted to provide them with this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Leann Yutuc, a spokesperson for Rogers Communications.

The trip includes flights to Vancouver, accommodations at a hotel near BC Place Stadium, and tickets to the concert. It will be the first time Barrett and Violet have flown on a plane or attended a major music event, making the family’s joy even more complete.
A Memorable Getaway
Meghan expressed her excitement about taking the kids to explore Vancouver, a city she frequently visited as a child. James, however, is most eager about the concert itself, believing it will be a memorable experience for the whole family.
“Taylor Swift’s music is so special—cheerful and easy to listen to. I used to play her songs all the time while working in housekeeping,” Meghan shared.
In addition to the trip, the Beckmanns are also feeling more hopeful as cleanup efforts begin in Jasper. James remains adamant about staying in the town where he grew up and continuing to raise his children there.
“I love Jasper and want my kids to keep going to school here,” he added.
Music and Hope
The trip to Vancouver is not just an opportunity for the Beckmanns to attend a major event but also a much-needed boost to help them navigate their current challenges. Taylor Swift’s music has brought joy and comfort to millions of fans worldwide, and now it is bringing hope and optimism to one small family in Jasper.
