A Thank You That Inspires Creativity
As a gesture of gratitude for the warm reception they received in Frome, Coldplay contributed £10,000 to Young People Frome,
The band also made a memorable visit to the town’s iconic record store, Raves from the Grave. There, they signed every CD and vinyl record in stock, which were later raffled off to raise an additional £4,000. The funds will go directly toward enriching the local music community and providing young people with the resources to grow their craft.
A Space for Dreams to Take Flight
Beginning in January 2025, monthly recording sessions will be held on Sundays at the Bert Jansch Studio in Frome. These sessions are designed to welcome young people from diverse backgrounds, with no requirement for prior musical expertise. Instead, the focus will be on nurturing curiosity and creativity.

“They don’t have to be particularly competent musicians or anything, they just have to be really curious,” said Steve Macarthur, director of Cheese and Grain. He expressed excitement at the prospect of witnessing participants’ progress over time, adding, “If they’re lucky, they’ll be able to walk away with a recording.”
This initiative isn’t just limited to seasoned music enthusiasts; later in the year, opportunities will be extended to local primary and secondary school students as well as young people not currently in education, employment, or training. The goal is to create an inclusive space where everyone has the chance to experience a professional recording environment, regardless of their background.
Coldplay’s Connection to Frome
Coldplay’s visit to Frome earlier this year created a stir among locals, with rumors spreading about the band’s rehearsals at Cheese and Grain. When they arrived, their genuine interest in the venue and its community-oriented mission was apparent.

“They’re genuinely nice guys and they were very interested in what we do,” Macarthur shared. He highlighted how Cheese and Grain’s community-owned model and its focus on serving local artists resonated with the band. “We’re not here to make money, we’re here to make music, and I think they just got quite excited about that and came on board.”
Their appearance drew a crowd, and the buzz from their visit continues to ripple through Frome, inspiring a renewed sense of excitement and possibility within the local music scene.
A Ripple Effect of Inspiration
The impact of Coldplay’s donation goes beyond monetary value. It’s a statement of belief in the power of music to transform lives and foster community. By providing access to professional-grade equipment and studio time, the band is helping young musicians take their first steps toward realizing their dreams.
For Cheese and Grain and its partner organizations, this donation is an opportunity to amplify their mission of making music accessible to all. The initiative is expected to inspire a new generation of artists, musicians, and creatives in Frome and beyond.
Coldplay’s Legacy of Giving Back
This latest act of generosity is in line with Coldplay’s long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities they touch. Whether through music, activism, or philanthropy, the band continues to use their platform to create meaningful change.
As young musicians gear up to explore their creativity in the Bert Jansch Studio, Coldplay’s gift will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on their lives, sparking inspiration and opportunity where it’s needed most. For Frome, the band’s visit wasn’t just a brush with fame—it was the beginning of something truly extraordinary.
