In this new series, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” follows Justin Russo, now grown up and living with his family on Staten Island. David Henrie reprises his role as Justin, who continues the Russo family’s magical legacy. Selena Gomez also returns as Alex Russo, making guest appearances and bringing Justin an important mission: to guide and train a young wizard named Billie, played by Janice LeAnn Brown.
The story begins when Alex appears with Billie, a young, talented wizard who is in danger. She asks Justin to help train Billie in magic and protect her from a dark force pursuing her. The Return of the Original Production Team
The success of the original “Wizards of Waverly Place” series wasn’t just due to its talented cast but also the dedicated production team behind the scenes. To recreate the familiar magical world, Disney invited many original team members to return. Director Jody Hahn, who joined the series in its second season, is now directing the new episodes. Jody shared that coming back to the set with the original cast felt like returning home, making for an emotional experience.
In addition to Jody, other key members, such as first AD Guy Distad, special effects artist Justin Krauss, and costume supervisor Gelareh Medge, have also returned to bring viewers a more authentic experience. Selena Gomez and the Evolution of Alex Russo
Since “Wizards of Waverly Place” ended, Selena Gomez has achieved great success in acting, music, and business. However, when returning to her role as Alex Russo, Selena remained true to the character’s down-to-earth nature. Gelareh Medge shared that during the first fitting, they were careful not to overdress Alex or make her appear different from her original character. Selena also agreed that keeping Alex simple and familiar was essential.

Along with Billie, other members of Justin’s new family have distinct styles. Milo, an active and free-spirited character, is given a sporty look, while Roman, a serious and studious character, is dressed in polo shirts and Oxford dress shirts to reflect his personality.

Justin Krauss, the special effects artist for the series, shared that recreating familiar spells with a fresh twist was a major challenge. Jody Hahn, who faced challenges with special effects in previous seasons, mentioned that things are much easier now due to experience and technological advances. “This time, we know how to lock up shots and set up plates, making the scenes more natural and effective,” Hahn explained.
